Vitamin C
VITAMIN C | WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW…
- TYPE OF INGREDIENT: Antioxidant
- THE BENEFITS: Increased collagen production, brightens skin, protects against damaging free radicals and harmful blue light. Improves absorption and penetration of other skincare products.
- WHO SHOULD USE IT: Vitamin C is not recommended for those with extremely sensitive skin and can be problematic for those with oily skin.
- HOW OFTEN CAN YOU USE IT? Vitamin C daily or every other day. Apply in the morning or evening as directed.
WORKS WELL WITH
Vitamin C works well with complementing antioxidants like Vitamin E and Ferulic acid, which can boost the efficacy and stability of the molecule.
HOW SHOULD YOU USE IT?
Opinions are conflicting when it comes to what time of the day is best for vitamin C application. While some argue that morning is best for protecting the skin, others are in favor of nighttime when the skin's vitamin C is most depleted. Whether you decide to apply it in the morning or before bed, or, use it daily or every other day, consistency is most important. Also, if you're using a serum (the most common vehicle for vitamin C), it should be applied after cleansing.
SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH
Avoid using with benzoyl peroxide, which can oxidize the vitamin C and make it useless very quickly. Also avoid using vitamin C with other acids, which may cause excessive skin irritation, especially if used daily. In addition, vitamin C should not be used with retinol, which can make the vitamin C more unstable and less likely to penetrate the skin.
TO SUM IT UP...
Vitamin C is another amazing skin care ingredient that has proven benefits. The great news is that there is plenty of scientific evidence to back them up! If you’d like to reduce the appearance of dark spots, increase the amount of collagen in your skin or make your skin appear healthier and more radiant, why not give a vitamin C serum a try?
