PEELS Q & A

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are exfoliation tools that remove your outermost layer of skin cells without manually disrupting your skin the way of scrubs and microdermabrasion. Many men and women love chemical peels because they come in so many different formulations. Whether you’re just hoping for a brightness boost or want to tackle lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, there’s a chemical peel for you.

What kinds of skin issues can chemical peels resolve?

Chemical peels can do wonders for many common skin conditions, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Acne and other types of scarring
  • Crow’s feet
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Sagging skin
  • General problems with tone and texture

Even better, many chemical peels resolve more than one skin issue at a time, making this approach a value as compared to other treatments.

What happens during a chemical peel?

Chemical peels usually involve the same steps. The process begins with a skin assessment and a gentle cleansing.

Next, a layer of a chemical solution is applied. In some cases, multiple layers are used to achieve the desired effect. The solution remains on your skin for a predetermined period of time. You may notice a slight stinging or burning effect as the solution begins to work. This is normal and subsides as your skin adjusts.

Once the solution has done its job, your practitioner carefully removes all traces of the peel. A calming lotion or balm is applied to soothe your skin.

What types of chemical peels are available?

Skin Deep Laser Medspa offers the best chemical peels on the market. Some of the available options include:

  • Micro-Peel
  • Acne Peel
  • Brighten Up Peel
  • Glycolic Peel
  • VI Peel™
  • Vitalize PeelⓇ
  • Oxy-Peel

Some peels are gentle and remove only the outermost layer of dead skin cells, while others penetrate deeply to address wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Some peels even incorporate a special blue light treatment to boost results.

Depending on the type of peel you choose, you may experience some tenderness, redness, and minor swelling after your peel. The dead skin might peel off invisible flakes to reveal the underlying layer of fresh cells.
